What is "hon-ai-zome" (real indigo dyeing)? A craftsmanship that survives to this day

"Genuine indigo dyeing" is a method that adheres to traditional methods and does not use any chemicals. It is very difficult to control and requires the skilled techniques of a skilled craftsman. It is a method that is only used by a very small number of indigo dyeing factories.

The unique " sukumo " (dye for indigo) cultivated by Akito Sato, an indigo master from Awa (Tokushima Prefecture)  This is then used to dye the indigo dyed fabric (which has been fermented and aged in a cool, dark place) by Yano Aishu, the representative of Hon Aizome Yano Factory (Tokushima Prefecture), who uses his expert skills to dye it.

No chemicals used, so it's safe

Indigo dyed products are generally known to fade and transfer colors easily, "Genuine indigo dyeing" does not use any chemicals and is characterized by extremely little fading or color transfer.

If the stain stains other clothes, don't worry - it will come off easily if you wash it with water.

Ingredients found only in natural indigo used in genuine indigo dyeing

-Has anti-odor and deodorizing effects.

・The ingredient "tryptanthrin" in indigo has a strong antibacterial effect, so it can be expected to have an anti-itch effect. It can also be worn safely by people with dermatitis.

- It is difficult for insects to get into it, so you don't need any insect repellent even if you store it in a closet. This is one of the reasons why indigo dye is still widely used for the noren curtains of restaurants and other establishments.

[Precautions when ordering and using]

○This product will be dyed by an indigo dyer one by one after receiving your order. Therefore, it will take about one month for delivery.

○The tie-dye pattern will be the same as the image, but as each piece is dyed by hand, no two pieces will be exactly the same.

○The color may fade or stain other items, but please rest assured that it will come off easily with water. Also, since it is a natural indigo dye that does not use any chemicals, there is no problem if it gets on clothes or the human body.

○Please store in a dark place away from direct sunlight.

○Wash by hand with mild detergent and lukewarm water, wring out and hang to dry in the shade.

○Please avoid washing, spin-drying and drying in a washing machine or dryer as this will damage the fabric. Due to the nature of the fabric, it will shrink slightly when it dries, but please enjoy this shrinkage as part of its texture. (Please note that washing with alkaline detergent will cause the texture to deteriorate.)

○The threads used in the fabric are as thin as possible to achieve a unique feel and texture. However, they are prone to tearing, so please use them with care.

Returns will only be accepted within 2 weeks of receipt of the product and only if the product is not damaged.
